Can AI speak all languages?

An app may be able to write in a language without recognizing learner speech accurately in that language. It may recognize standard speech but offer fewer voices, dialects, or pronunciation details.

When an app lists a supported language, check which activities are actually available: voice conversation, speech recognition, text chat, pronunciation feedback, and interface translation are different features.

AI systems learn from available examples. Languages, regional varieties, and speaking styles with less representative data may receive less reliable recognition or less natural output.

Names, specialist terminology, code-switching, background noise, and an unexpected dialect can also reduce recognition quality even in a widely supported language.

Before relying on a tool, try a real speaking task in your target variety. Check whether it follows your meaning, handles follow-up questions, and gives feedback that remains consistent across several attempts.

For an endangered or less-resourced language, combine AI practice with recordings, dictionaries, teachers, and community sources rather than treating AI output as the final authority.
